2017 Signed & Numbered ACL Festival Artist Poster
We’ve been big fans of Austin’s Todd Slater for years and finally convinced him to make a poster for us. Todd has a richly illustrative style that borrows a little from psychedelia as well as poster traditions of the early 20th century. Animals feature prominently in his work, and for ACL Festival, he gives us a new species — the batterfly. At first glance it may look like Austin’s iconic bat, but a little deeper inspection shows it has gorgeous butterfly wings. Naturally it is flying high above a swarm streaming out of the Congress Avenue bridge. Todd produced two different versions for us. The Commemorative Edition has a single batterfly while the Signed & Numbered expands to include two more companions. As with all of our posters, we only print one run and once sold out will not be re-issued. See below for more details:
- Commemorative Edition $30 — Offset-printed with four-color process ink on heavyweight, uncoated paper. Includes complete band lineup. 18” x 24”
- Signed & Numbered Edition $175 — Silkscreened with six spot colors, including metallic gold and silver, on heavyweight, 100% cotton rag paper. This version does not include the band lineup. Printed in a numbered edition of 350 that is also signed by the artist. 36”x 24”
- The accompanying image shows the main poster art only.
- All posters will begin shipping in September.
About the Artist
Todd Slater is as prolific as he is piercingly inventive. In a decade since graduating from art school, and now operating out of a converted garage studio on the outskirts of Austin, Texas, he has created hundreds of dazzling posters featuring the music industry’s hottest acts—including The Black Keys, Jack White, Avett Brothers, and the Arctic Monkeys to mention just a few. Todd draws his inspiration directly from each artist’s music, translating the sounds into gut instincts for graphics, and he has an acute sense for the vibes that drive color selection and design schemes.
